This project reads partly like a book where the "Unrealistic" page can be flipped back and forth. It explores the unrealistic expectations placed on women throughout history.
The Collar.
Materials: Paper Mache, Silver Cutlery, Beads, Wire, Plate, Tape Measure, Ribbon

Both of my necklaces are made from items found within the home (the stereotypical place women, historically, are represented in).
Necklace one is made out of silver cutlery to represent their place as home-makers. It also has a ribbon fastening to show women’s role in historic society as well. The second necklace is made from a decorative plate that people usually collect and hang on the walls. This was chosen to show how women historically were treated like possessions instead of people.
The Scroll
Materials: Wood, Collographed Mitsumata Paper, Acrylic Paint, Cheesecloth, Lace

I chose to create an
imitation of a historic scroll using collographed printed paper. Inside of the scroll are black handprints that when the scroll is light up, the viewer can see the silhouette of them. The purpose of this sculpture is to recognize and reminisce on the types of art and trades (like bookbinding, clock making, lacemaking etc) that are being forgotten as technology takes over.
