The Conference Project (The Biblio Preservations Guild)

I’ve always loved books. I love reading them, and I love writing them. I think literature has so much knowledge to give and I love antique books. I’ve recently gained interest in how books were made in history, so I thought this would be a great opportunity to share and explore my love for traditional bookbinding. Through mass production,

books have become more consumable and accessible, but I've found that the character their covers once had has vanished. Which is why I think traditional methods of bookbinding need to be preserved. That is why I chose the bookbinding theme for my conference.

Deliverable & Process

Explore My Process & Deliverables

  • PROCESS
The first step in my process was to moodboard and do some secondary research. Once I had a general idea of the direction I wanted to go, I did some inital sketches for the logo.
  • LOGO IDENTITY
A logo is typically the first visual element that links to a brand. Creating the right logo was the first thing I designed for this project.
  • PROGRAM
Once I had a logo that appealed to an established target audience, I was able to delve into designing the program and logo guidelines for the conference. My goal here was to create a design layout that spoke to traditional/historical book design.
  • PROMOTIONAL MATERIALS
Promotional materials included stickers, banners, posters, and conference ID tags.
About the Logo
Because the goal of my conference was to encourage and preserve traditional bookbinding methods, my target audience was post-secondary institutions. It was important to me the logo had a clean appearance yet in a style that spoke to historical book making methods (hence the illuminated initial).
